COSMED is an Italian Company manufacturing Cardio Pulmonary Diagnostic Equipment. COSMED products are aimed for either professional or medical use for many different applications like: Hospital, Clinics, Primary Care, University & Education in Human Physiology, Clinical Nutrition, Commercial Weight Management, Human Performance Centers, Sport Institutions and Health Club Industry. Currently, COSMED products range from a complete range of spirometers (PC-based, desktop, hand-held and stationary) to modular Pulmonary Function equipment and Cardio Pulmonary Exercise Testing systems, ECGs, Ergometers and Software.
Founded in 1980 and based in Rome, Italy, the company actively started developing new products soon after being incorporated. COSMED started growing rapidly in the early 80s thanks to the development of a very innovative portable electronic spirometers. This equipment enjoyed success in Europe and in the Far East thanks to important OEM agreements. The late nineties saw a real boost for the company thanks to the development of the first portable metabolic measurement device, the K4. Protected by several international patents, the K4 rapidly become the best selling equipment for in-the-field measurement of Oxygen consumption in Universities, Sport Science and Research centers.
In 2003 the company enjoyed huge investment in the development of new products and an enormous growth in company infrastructure by more than doubling office and manufacturing space. A major new division of COSMED expanding investment into the Weight Management and Fitness industry was established during 2005 with the introduction of the FITMATE product, offering affordable and user-friendly metabolic measurement capability to the Health and Wellness industry.
